Box Review: Selection Box Vol.02
This is the 2nd Selection BOX and was released on January 11, 2019. Selection BOXes are only available for a limited time and they contain reprints from previous BOXes as well as new cards. They are unique in the sense that one can only buy a limited number of packs with Gems, in this case only 10 packs out of 60 can be bought with Gems, therefore requiring you to purchase the rest.

Angel of Zera
This is one of the cards I am very interested in. Up until now there were no good generic level 8 synchro monsters to go into. Stardust Dragon and Black-Winged Dragon are both mediocre and don’t boast meta countering stats or effects, but Angel of Zera is very intriguing in a meta where every deck runs cards that end up in the banish pile, whether they be Paleozoic Canadia or vampire searchers. This card also has potential when used in conjunction with the next card, Eccentric Boy.
Eccentric Boy
As a standalone card I am not very impressed; whatever monster you synchro summon is only useful as a beatstick and is banished when it leaves the field. However, when used to summon Angel of Zera this card can make a monster that revives it self on the following Standby Phase. We may see this card used with level 5 monsters that can summon themselves without tribute such as Big Piece Golem or Earth Armor Ninja (shoutouts to radlup for the reminder) so that they are not bricks without Eccentric Boy or we may see the deck run Level Duplication with level 4 monsters so that you have a guaranteed Angel of Zera. Overall I think this card is terrible if it is not used with Angel of Zera.
Necrovalley
While I do enjoy gravekeepers as an archetype, I do not think this card will make gravekeepers meta. This card is very strong as a side deck card to floodgate graveyard dependent strategies. I think it is very unhealthy and will see competitive use in tournaments.
Masked HERO Dian
You already know I’m cooking up something new with heroes, however I will be testing the deck heavily before I make any definitive statements on whether dian is to be more focused on or to be included at all. I very much like this card because it provides Masked HEROes the option to play defensive instead of being solely an OTK deck. While having fast OTKs is nice, I prefer the deck to have versatility and options other than hyperaggression, otherwise mirror matches become unhealthy coinflips.
Wiseman’s Chalice
Of the high tier mirror matches, I do not believe we have a deck that can use this card effectively. This card has future potential but as of now I do not see it having a large meta impact.
Night Beam
While I think this card is nice, I don’t think it will actually see much use. Galaxy Cyclone is used commonly because it has a secondary effect that does well against vampires. Cosmic Cyclone is used in decks that want an immediate answer to backrow and decks that are fine trading life points for removal. Having a card your opponent can’t respond to is strong, but it’s not that relevant against any meta backrow other than Vampire Takeover.
Spore
While this may seem like a good addition to sylvans, this card doesn’t help sylvans become meta relevant again. This is because koa’ki have Koa’Ki Meiru Maximus that can pop a set mush and vamps have Vampire Kingdom to to do the same and punish deck milling.
Scrap Archfiend
This card is mediocre. I’m pretty sure we have better generic level 7 synchros so it is hard to justify spending the extra deck space on this vanilla beatstick.
HTS Psyhemuth
This card is the best generic level 6 synchro we have so far. The only issue is that we do not have a top tier deck that can consistently summon it.
Samsara, Dragon of Rebirth
This card is decent to wall out opponents as 2600 is higher than all vampire monsters with the field spell and the floating protects you even after your opponent outs it.
