Cyber Dragon Guide

Introduction

This fan favorite deck has received much needed support in Future Horizon. A competitive Cyber Dragon deck capable of easily blowing up your opponent’s board in a single turn and summoning Fusion Monsters capable of dealing massive damage.

As previously mentioned, Cyber Dragons revolve around Fusion Summoning their boss monsters that can attack multiple times, allowing for consistent OTKs. To help with this, the deck also provides searchable cards that destroy Monsters as well as Spell / Traps. Combining destruction and high attack output with searchability is a recipe that leads to a very powerful deck in the meta. Cyber Dragon Core can search both Cyberload Fusion (your main way to fusion summon) or Cybernetic Overflow (your main way to destroy cards). After Fusion Summoning into Chimeratech Rampage Dragon (the newest boss monster), you can destroy backrow cards and attack up to 3 times.

Skills

Core Cards

The following cards make their way into the deck’s must-run category as they each provide one piece of the Cyber Dragon win condition.

Cyber Dragon Core (3x)

Duel Links Card: Cyber%20Dragon%20Core
  • This monster searches your “Cyber” Spells / Traps, initiating your plays with Cybernetic Overflow and ending games with Cyberload Fusion. Drawing any missing piece of the puzzle has an increased probability with this monster at 3 copies.

  • While also being a great Turn 1 play, Cyber Dragon Core has a great graveyard effect that lets players make plays requiring “Cyber Dragon” without relying on topdecks.

Cyber Dragon (0-2x)

Duel Links Card: Cyber%20Dragon
  • The original Cyber Dragon’s usefulness comes in the fact it is “Cyber Dragon” in the hand and not just on the field or graveyard. With Cyber Dragon, you will always have an active Cybernetic Overflow no matter where it is.

Cyberload Fusion (2-3x)

Duel Links Card: Cyberload%20Fusion
  • This is your main fusion spell using your Field and Banish Zone as materials. This synergizes with Cybernetic Overflow - which banishes your monsters for you to then fuse with.

  • As a Quick-Play Spell, this card can be activated on your opponent’s turn to destroy their newly set backrow. You can also dodge targeting effects and go for game after your monsters attack.

  • This card shuffles the fusion material back into the deck, recycling Cyber Dragon Core for more searches and avoiding deck-outs.

Cybernetic Fusion Support (1-3x)

Duel Links Card: Cybernetic%20Fusion%20Support

Cyber Dragon Vier (0-3x)

Duel Links Card: Cyber%20Dragon%20Vier
  • Cyber Dragon Vier is how you put multiple “Cyber Dragon” on the board off of 1 Summon. Since all your monsters act as “Cyber Dragon” on the field, you can always Special Summon this, giving Cybernetic Overflow two pops by default.

Cybernetic Overflow (2x)

Duel Links Card: Cybernetic%20Overflow
  • Following closely behind Cyber Dragon Core as the best card in the deck, this trap is your main form of monster and backrow removal. With the high probability of being able to pop 3 of your opponent’s cards, you want to see Overflow as much as possible.

  • Being able to banish “Cyber Dragon(s)” of different levels from your hand, field, and/or graveyard gives this card immense flexibility as even if your monsters on the field were to be destroyed by Treacherous Trap Hole or used as tribute for Lava Golem, “Cyber Dragon” monsters still act as “Cyber Dragon” while in the graveyard.

  • Your required different levels come from Cyber Dragon Core, Proto-Cyber Dragon (from Cyber Style), Cyber Dragon Vier, and Cyber Dragon.

  • This card DOES NOT TARGET, meaning if your opponent does not respond to the initial activation of this card, they will not have the opportunity to activate their cards and thus be destroyed.

  • Finally, if this card on the field were to be destroyed by card effect, you are able to search for either another Cybernetic Overflow or Cyberload Fusion. You can proc this yourself, giving you more options depending on the situation.

  • Each effect can only be used Once Per Turn

Fusion Gate (2-3x)

Duel Links Card: Fusion%20Gate

Extra Deck

Chimeratech Rampage Dragon (2-3x)

Duel Links Card: Chimeratech%20Rampage%20Dragon
  • This easy-to-summon Fusion Monster (requiring 2 or more “Cyber Dragon” monsters) functions as another form of backrow removal and as a game finisher. On summon, this card destroys Spell / Traps up to the number of fusion materials used (at least 2 pops).

  • After clearing your opponent’s field, you can go for game with this card’s secondary effect to gain up to two additional attacks by sending LIGHT Machine monsters from Deck to GY. Three direct attacks from this monster results in 6300 damage, which is lethal in almost every case.

  • The LIGHT Machine monsters that you send to the graveyard are very important as they set up future plays with Cybernetic Overflow. Your ideal targets are Cyber Dragon and Cyber Dragon Vier, if possible, since you want different levels in your Graveyard.

Cyber End Dragon (1x)

Duel Links Card: Cyber%20End%20Dragon

Your biggest fusion monster, typically used to get over things that Cybernetic Overflow cannot get rid of, such as Invoked Cocytus or other monsters with high ATK/DEF values. Easy to get out with Cyber Style.

Cyber Twin Dragon (1-2x)

Duel Links Card: Cyber%20Twin%20Dragon

2800 ATK monster that can attack twice. Big enough to go for game and attack over most monsters that Chimeratech Rampage Dragon cannot handle.

Chimeratech Overdragon (1-2x)

Duel Links Card: Chimeratech%20Overdragon

Overdragon provides an alternative way to out big monsters, with the potential of becoming even bigger than Cyber End Dragon and clearing all opponents’ monsters.

Tech Cards

Cosmic Cyclone

Duel Links Card: Cosmic%20Cyclone

The best backrow removal card in the game with the added benefit of paying 1000 LP to help trigger Cyber Style.

Offerings To The Doomed

Duel Links Card: Offerings%20To%20The%20Doomed
Additional generic monster removal.

Storm

Duel Links Card: Storm

Paired greatly with Cybernetic Overflow, this card allows untargetable backrow removal as well as search potential.

Abyss-Scorn

Duel Links Card: Abyss-Scorn

Paired greatly with Storm. This card is an additional form of monster removal that SENDS, avoiding any form of destruction protection or effects that activate upon destruction.

Herald of the Abyss

Duel Links Card: Herald%20of%20the%20Abyss

Great for dealing with monsters that cannot be targeted and/or destroyed. Also aids in the activation of Cyber Style.

Book of Moon

Duel Links Card: Book%20of%20Moon

An overall great card to deal with problem monsters during either player’s turn.

Into the Void

Duel Links Card: Into%20the%20Void

General draw power that turbos out OTK potential. The downside of having to dump your hand in the End Phase isn’t that damaging either as Cyber Dragon monsters sent to the GY can still be used as fodder for Cybernetic Overflow.

Basic Combo

The deck benefits from going 1st as you are able to:

  1. Search with Cyber Dragon Core
  2. Set Cybernetic Overflow and/or Cyberload Fusion
  3. Disrupt opponent’s combo during their turn by destroying monsters and ridding the board of their newly set backrow.

General Rule of Thumb: Activate Cybernetic Overflow first and activate Cyberload Fusion second.

While also having the necessary tools to OTK while going 2nd:

Fusion Gate Combo

5+ Monsters

  1. Normal Summon Cyber Dragon Core, search Cybernetic Fusion Support or Cyberload Fusion

  2. Activate Fusion Gate and Fusion Summon Chimeratech Rampage Dragon using Cyber Dragon Core and a monster in your hand

  3. Activate Cybernetic Fusion Support and activate Cyber Style, Fusion Summoning into another Chimeratech Rampage Dragon with Fusion Gate using those Proto-Cyber Dragons

  4. Send 2 monsters each to the GY with both Chimeratech Rampage Dragons, including atleast 1 original Cyber Dragon

  5. Activate Fusion Gate and say YES to the effect of Cybernetic Fusion Support. Fusion Summon Cyber End Dragon using the materials in the GY, including the 1 original Cyber Dragon

The Result: 2 Chimeratech Rampage Dragons and Cyber End Dragon

If needed, acivate Cyberload Fusion Fusion Summoning Chimeratech Overdragon using every monster at your disposal

4 Monsters

  1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 of the 5-monster build

  2. Activate Cybernetic Fusion Support, activate Cyber Style, and make Cyber Twin Dragon with Fusion Gate and the 2 Proto-Cyber Dragons.

  3. Send 2 monsters with Chimeratech Rampage Dragon including at least 1 original Cyber Dragon.

  4. Make a second Cyber Twin Dragon using the effect of Cybernetic Fusion Support and Fusion Gate to make a second Cyber Twin Dragon, banishing 2 monsters from your GY, including Cyber Dragon.

  5. If needed, follow up with a Cyberload Fusion, shuffling all monsters banished and, on the field to summon an 7200 ATK Chimeratech Overdragon.

3 Monsters

What you need is Fusion gate + Cyberload Fusion + Cybernetic Fusion Support + 1 monster.

  1. Repeat step 1 from the 5-monster build

  2. Activate Fusion Gate, activate Cybernetic Fusion Support, activate Cyber Style.

  3. Fusion Summon Chimeratech Rampage Dragon using Cyber Dragon Core and a Proto-Cyber Dragon, pop 2 backrow.

  4. Send 2 monsters to the GY with the effect of Chimeratech Rampage Dragon.

  5. There are 2 options here. You can make a Cyber End Dragon using the 2 monsters in the GY and the Proto-Cyber Dragon on field, or you can make a Cyber Twin Dragon using only the monsters in the GY.

  6. If you make Cyber Twin Dragon, you can follow up with Cyberload Fusion and make a 5600 ATK Chimeratech Overdragon.

Alternative End boards

In some cases you may want to fusion summon a different monster instead of Cyber End Dragon

  • When up against a monster that can float, you may want to make double Chimeratech Overdragon. To do this, you would use the effect of Cybernetic Fusion Support to fuse all monsters on the field and the grave to make your 1st Chimeratech Overdragon. The sweet spot is usually 3200 ATK, being able to clear a Blue-Eyes board with 5 attacks.

After the board is clear, you can follow up with Cyberload Fusion to make a bigger Chimeratech Overdragon for lethal.

*Note that you can only do this if you play at least a single copy of original Cyber Dragon

Pair Cycroid Combo

  • In cases where a Cyber End Dragon or double Chimeratech Overdragon may not be enough, you may want to go Pair cycroid. Pair Cycroid will be able to deal lethal damage over any monster 3200 to 4000 ATK (in combination with Chimeratech Overdragon) as long you have an opening hand of Cybernetic Fusion Support, Fusion Gate, Cyberload Fusion, or Cyber Dragon Core + Cybernetic Fusion Support/Cyberload Fusion + Fusion Gate.
  1. Repeat step 1 of the 5 monster build

  2. Activate Cybernetic Fusion Support and activate Cyber Style.

  3. Activate Fusion Gate and Fusion Summon a Chimeratech Rampage Dragon.

  4. Send 2 monsters to the GY with the effect of Chimeratech Rampage Dragon and Fusion Summon a second Chimeratech Rampage Dragon using the materials only in the GY.

  5. Using both Chimeratech Rampage Dragons, fusion summon a Pair Cycroid and deal 1600 direct damage.

  6. Activate Cyberload Fusion to summon a 6400 ATK Chimeratech Overdragon.

  • If you have no monsters in hand, a single copy of original Cyber Dragon in the deck is required for this combo, and you will be able to deal lethal damage through anything 3200 ATK or less

Matchups

As with most matchups, it is in Cyber Dragons’ favor to go first in order to blow up the opponents’ board during their turn. However Cyber Dragons still retain the ability to commit quick and devastating Turn 2 OTK plays.

Blue-Eyes

50-50

A previously favorable matchup that changed quite a lot recently. Previously your main strategy was to destroy their backrow such as discard traps like Karma Cut and Raigeki Break to never let them summon any monsters off White Stone of the Ancients. Right now their main strategy is to get out Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon as fast as possible. Your best chance is to go first, wait to use Cybernetic Overflow as long as possible, and destroy their field at the end of the turn.

Tech cards such as Book of Moon can prevent their Synchro Summon and Herald of the Abyss can clear the synchro as long as it is the only dragon on the field.

Late game, Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon is also dangerous to out since it can clear your Cyber End Dragon or Chimeratech Overdragon. On the other the hand, you can also OTK over Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon with a 4k+ ATK Chimeratech Overdragon since Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon cannot be destroyed by battle and you can attack multiple times over it.

Tech Cards to Side:

Star Seraph Darklord

30-70

This matchup is hard, together with Thunder Dragon, probably your worst matchup in the meta.

If they get to play the Darklord part of their deck, you usually lose. Searchable protection from Cybernetic Overflow with Darklord Tezcatlipoca is super strong. You have a chance if they go first and the best they can do is only Evilswarm Ouroborus and pass without the Darklord setup so you can OTK over it.

Going first, Book of Moon and Cybernetic Overflow are useful to interrupt the Star Seraph Sceptar and Sovereignty (stick and chair) combo. Make sure your toggle is set to ON and interrupt after the summon of the third monster and not before, so they don’t summon a seraph monster they drew off the first chair possibly.

Tech Cards to Side:

Harpies

80-20

Cyber Dragon seems to defeat Harpies pretty easily mainly with Cybernetic Overflow. Since it does not target, Swallow’s Nest does not dodge destruction. Forbidden Lance and typical backrow hate might prove to be a problem if Cyber Dragons did not also have access to Book of Moon or Offerings to the Doomed along to use in conjuction with Overflow. Whether or not Harpies go 1st or 2nd, the same cards can deal with their board. Preventing the Synchro Summon of Cyber Slash Harpie Lady is ideal however even if they get the synchro out turn 1, Book of Moon or Herald of the Abyss before you summon anything can lead into an OTK.

Tech Cards to Side:

Onomat

60-40

This matchup is very straightforward. If you go first and they have Hey, Trunade! they win, otherwise, you should be able to interrupt with Cybernetic Overflow and OTK them the following turn. Make sure to interrupt after they adjusted the levels with Gagaga Sister to leave them with an lv4+lv6 on the field so they cannot XYZ Summon.

If you go second, they usually Photon Strike Bounzer turn 1 and you have a decent chance to OTK with Book of Moon or Herald of the Abyss.

Tech Cards to Side:

Water XYZ

70-30

The matchup against Water XYZ is very favorable. Cyber Dragon plays plenty of backrow removal.

Cybernetic Overflow is your key card here destroying the monsters summoned of Atlantean Heavy Infantry or Deep Sea Diva before they can XYZ Summon into Abyss Dweller or Synchro Summon into White Aura Dolphin.

Book of Moon is your good friend to either disrupt the XYZ when you go first or to turn the Abyss Dweller facedown and make your fusion gate plays successful when you go second. Offerings to the Doomed works as well. Herald of the Abyss is also a good option but only works on your turn.

It is important to look for any Quick-Play Spells such as Book of Moon or Forbidden Lance. Both can take away a target for Cybernetic Overflow or make one of their monsters protected against the destruction from it. So always check for delay using the toggle button on your opponent’s Draw/Standby Phase to see what you possibly have to deal with. Do the same in the End Phase if you plan to Fusion Summon Chimeratech Rampage Dragon.

While Book of Moon usually doesn’t hurt you since you can Fusion Summon Chimeratech Rampage Dragon even with facedown non-original Cyber Dragon monsters such as Proto-Cyber Dragon or Cyber Dragon Core, a Forbidden Lance can be deadly and make your Cyberload Fusion fizzle.

Tech Cards to Side:

Thunder Dragon

30-70

Thunder Dragons have 0 backrow, float with Thunder Dragonroar to avoid OTK, and have easy access to Chaos Dragon Levianeer. On top of that, they usually have 2+ Sphere Kuriboh post side, sometimes even in the main deck.

Your best chance to win this matchup is if they only go Photon Strike Bounzer pass turn 1 and you can otk over it, but usually, there is a Thunder Dragonroar next to it. If your hand is strong enough and you don’t fear Sphere Kuriboh, you can try to flip the Thunder Dragonroar facedown and win with Cyber End Dragon using the piercing damage.

Cyber Dragons need to play fast and offensive since the grind game against Chaos Dragon Levianeer is a guaranteed loss.

Tech Cards to Side:

Final Thoughts

While not entirely perfect, the deck has definitely become competitive and is able to go head-to-head with tournament level decks and come out on top. With both great turn 1 and turn 2 options, powerful cards, and truly destructive capabilities, Cyber Dragon stands to be on the Tier List and should be expected to perform well in both Ranked as well as high-level tournaments.
