Traptrix Guide
Traptrix are a control deck, and the Traptrix are going to win games by destroying and disturbing effects with traps and beating your opponents to death…with LOLIS. Trap usage management is really important, it is also important to know when to use Endless Trap Hell, like whether to recycle for Treacherous Trap Hole usage or to get value out of recycling most of your game changing traps like Wall of Disruption, Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare, Paleozoic Canadia, et cetera. I will update my deck as I perfect it and if you have your own consistent build let me know in the comments. Overall this deck is really fun, and I hope you guys have as much fun with it as I have!
-
Try to use Endless Trap Hell conservatively, don’t use it purely for the Treacherous Trap Hole activation.
-
If you’re about to set up for a desperation ETH play, load up your grave with Wall of Disruption, Paleozoic Canadia, Treacherous Trap Hole, or Drowning Mirror Force so when one of them goes into your hand you can set it on your field.
-
ETH should only rarely be used just to trigger TTH, some circumstances may include Vampire matchup and the Geargia matchup.
-
It is ok to sacrifice good traps like Canadia or Wall of Disruption for a Vision HERO Witch Raider summon as you can just ETH it back [This play should only be made if you know it’s game or if it is a desperate situation].
-
ETH should also be used when you have monsters in hand but no traps on the field or in your hand, try not to have Drowning Mirror Force in your grave when you do this though, as you really don’t want Drowning to be the only trap in your possession.
-
In the most optimal situation, it is best to use ETH when you have five or more traps in your grave and you have established field control so you can play a little more recklessly knowing you have traps to fall back on to recover.
- With my recent decklist I have quite a few more monsters than before and I found myself often bricking with too many monsters in my deck, so I just wanted a more consistent skill to open with my traps
- With the recent uprising of Last Gamble, this is a pretty good counter against it, also if you don’t manage to finish off your opponent with your witch raider play, you could finish him off with Chain Reaction. Warlock would totally approve of this 😊
Traptrix Atrax
In my opinion it’s a must have of three because it pretty much renders all back row removal useless
Traptrix Dionaea
Really good you don’t really need a three of, I would be running a three of but I faced so many Jinzos on ladder, so I subbed one out for Vision HERO Witch Raider
Vision HERO Witch Raider
For beating over big monsters, I usually used this to deal with Jinzos since it’s a backrow clear and they can’t chain any traps to it so it’s basically a free Jinzo Removal
Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare
Deals with a lot of cards like Citadel Whale, Vampire Grace or Vampire Vamp if summoned from Vampire Takeover, Masked HERO Anki doing Anki stuff, Wiz, Sage Fur Hire, et cetera.
Widespread Ruin
This is to replace any Drownings you are missing, since this is a UR in a mini box it should be more obtainable, although not as effective as Drowning Mirror Force but it’s still a very good one for one card
Traptrix Dionaea
If you are missing a second Vision HERO Witch Raider you can add in one more Dionaea in place of it. Playstyle will change though, this will give it more control but less offensive power
Powerful Rebirth
If you’re missing Paleozoic Canadias, this card is the next go to card, it can stall you a turn and bring back Dionaea and one trap with it’s effect, but this card might make you brick more, and is not as good as Canadia
Floodgate Trap Hole
If you have three Floodgates (I only have 2) you can replace one Drowning Mirror Force/ Paleozoic Canadia for it
Mother Spider
Another boss monster, this card is really situational, but if it’s effect can be activated it will change the tide of the battle, high risk, high reward, potential play: Wall of D them→ they set all their monsters to defense → special summon Mother Spider → win. It is also worth noting that if you plan on running this instead of Witch Raiders, also tech in Curse of Anubis and windstorm as they change monsters to defense position.
Mana Dragon Zirnitron
Another good “boss” card in the recently released box “Tornado of Phantoms” He can be special summoned if one of your traps is removed from the field you can special summon Zirnitron and bring the targeted trap back onto the field. His effect also works if he is in the graveyard but if special summoned, he will be banished so the only way to use his graveyard effect is if you tribute summoned him. Also, if a chainable backrow is targeted, you could activate it and then special summon Zirnitron to bring back that trap and wait to activate it again.
Network Trap Hole
This card is AWESOME. If a card is special summoned from the deck or graveyard it gets banished, right now in the current meta a lot of cards use summoning from the grave/main deck, e.g. Koa’ki Meiru Urnight’s effect, Vampire Retainer, familiar, Takeover, and Samurai Skull. This also works against Amazoness Princess’ special summoning effect and also Silent Magician and Silent Swordsman.
Vampires
Slightly hard to deal with, Vision HERO Witch Raider can deal with Vampire Kingdom, but you probably should not summon her unless you also have Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare set and is trying to bait out a Vampire Vamp. Other wise just backrow the crap out of them, if they’re smart, they’ll probably try to chip away at your board and pop your monsters and traps before swinging in. In that case hope that you draw into a Treacherous Trap Hole or a Vision HERO Witch Raider
Spellbooks
Pretty easy matchup, they have limited resources for banishing and you’re backrow will stop them in their tracks and then you can slowly regain control at your own pace
Ultra Athletes
Decent matchup, it really depends, Snowman Eater can be annoying, and they have monsters that can tag out if it gets targeted by something. But if they special summon U.A. Midfielder and activates its effect, Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare will deal with them
Control
Just don’t set your traps and you pretty much win this one, but if you don’t start with Traptrix Atrax then you just lost this one
Noble Knights
This match up all depends if you start with Treacherous Trap Hole/Floodgate Trap Hole or not, if not try to stall until you get Vision HERO Witch Raider in hand or TTH onto the field
Geargias
You have Paleozoic Canadia, Floodgate Trap Hole, Treacherous Trap Hole, this matchup is no problem, just in case there’s also Vision HERO Witch Raider for backrow clearance
Cipher Soldier Burn
This matchup is a bit problematic as well, try to Treacherous Trap Hole their monsters as your Vision HERO Witch Raiders will get wrecked and they probably also have Lava Golem so try not to summon multiple monsters, but in case they summon Lava Golem onto your side, you still have your TTH
Koa’ki Meiru
This matchup is a nightmare unless you open Atrax, if you don’t open Atrax try to stall and surive until you draw into Atrax. Mana Dragon Zirnitron is kind of like a Kuriboh in this match up, when they pop one of your traps you could summon Zirnitron as a wall.
Buster Blader
This is a pretty easy matchup, if you have Atrax, trunade won’t be able to do anything and if they get their Dragon Destroyer out you could just Floodgate/Canadia/Treacherous it.
Karakuri
Generally a easy matchup, they do not have any backrow removal so you are fine, having Atrax just stops their Hey, Trunade!s.
- You chain your Paleozoic Canadia in your grave to a trap to summon it onto the field for an extra body or as Witch Raider fodder
- Special summon Traptrix Dionaea with Dionaea to get a trap back onto your field
- You could use the above tactic like this:
- You only have one ‘hole’ trap card in your grave and a Treacherous Trap Hole set
- You can special summon the trap card onto the field and then activate the TTH already set
- Your Traptrix cards are unaffected by ‘hole’ trap cards so feel free to use them as a TTH target
- You can chain a ‘trap hole’ card to special summoning of a Dionaea and activate her effect after the ‘hole’ card and bring it back so you can essentially:
- Special summon Dionaea
- Chain TTH/Floodgate/ any other ‘hole’ card
- After the ‘hole’ card goes to the graveyard click yes to the special summoned Dionaea’s effect
- Select a ‘hole’ card from the grave
