Tips and Tricks in Duel Links

Overview

Hi! I am Varis(Revolver)-VV, a helper in DLM Discord. For everyone who wants to play Duel Links, I want to show you my guide about ‘Tips and Tricks’ in the game. This can help new players to learn the best way to begin playing and learning helpful tips in the future. I hope you guys will like this guide! Enjoy!

Part 1 - The Beginning of a Journey

When you begin the game, you can choose either Kaiba or Yami Yugi as starter. Then, you follow the 2 demo duels which are about how to summon monsters/use spells and traps. After that, you earn your first 50 gems to buy first pack.

TIPS: Aim for:

Secret Pass to the Treasures

Duel Links Card: Secret%20Pass%20to%20the%20Treasures
This card is a very important in any farm decks currently. It has synergy with Vassal and Union Attack. You will have a free pack on The Ultimate Rising box which has this card so try to get it in that packs.

Sphere Kuriboh

Duel Links Card: Sphere%20Kuriboh

Another card I recommend is Sphere Kuriboh. It is a versatile card that can be very useful in the meta:

This is used in Cyberdark decks, and can be a great tech for other decks too. There is a Sphere Kuriboh bundle in the shop too which can be great if you open this in your 1st pack! I’d recommend the Secret card for future farming, but this is not a bad choice either if you want to play competitively right away!

NOTE: In case you can’t get it, then REROLL

How to Reroll an Account:

  1. Uninstall and reinstall Duel Links.
  2. Go through the tutorial.
  3. Go to first pack opening part.
  4. Repeat from 1. if you don’t have Secret Pass to the Treasures.

Part 2 - Universal Duel World

There are 4 main parts of the Duel World: Gate, PvP Arena, Shop and Duel Studio.

World

Gate

Duel Trials

Duel Trials: Contain Duel Quizes which gives you 15 gems - when you complete a Quiz; and Loaner Deck Duels which gives you 30 Gems when you win with a prepared deck.

Gate

Gate: Place to duel Legendary Duelist(LD) by using Gate Keys and Colour Keys.

PvP Arena

PvP

Event Shortcut: For events like Tour Guide's Bingo and Duelist Challenge(The Tour Guide face).

Ranked Duel Shortcut: Can let you duel PvP immediately(Picture of rank you are in).

Giganticastle

Duel Links Card: Giganticastle
Good F2P level 9 synchro for Six Samurai and Blue-Eyes.Still being used at some moment!

Regular Inventory's Benefits

Regular Invetory

This is a place in Card Trader that people usually overlook. Don’t worry, I will show you what you can find here and its benefits. It contains old cards that used to be in the regular rotation, but were replaced by newer cards. It has some pretty good cards like:

A/D Changer

Duel Links Card: A/D%20Changer
Works with Decks like: (Neos, Red-Eyes): Change a monster's battle position. Very versatile.

Black Luster Soldier - Sacred Soldier

Duel Links Card: Black%20Luster%20Soldier%20-%20Sacred%20Soldier
Works with Decks like: (Red-Eyes): Combo with A/D: When it is summoned it can return a banished Light or Dark mons to banish a card on the field!

Miracle Contact

Duel Links Card: Miracle%20Contact
Works with Decks like: (Neos, Neo-Spacian): A good recovery card for Neos decks due to its ability to recycle resources and special summon from the extra deck!. Neo Spacians love this card!

Delta The Magnet Warrior

Duel Links Card: Delta%20The%20Magnet%20Warrior
Works with Decks like: (Magnets): A 3x must in Magnet decks. This card can send an Electromagnet and prepare to summon Berserkion the Electromagna Warrior next turn!

NOTE: You can only trade 1 card per day in Regular Inventory till after 8h rotation.

Part 3 - Campaigns and Events

These are main Campaigns in Duel Links:

1.5x EXP Bonus Campaign

EXP

Best campaign to level up characters. For beginners, it is advised to grind for these LV UP Rewards Cards:

Duel Links Card: Windstorm%20of%20Etaqua
Duel Links Card: Curse%20of%20Anubis

Both are good basic defensive cards for any starting decks. Try hard for them during this campaign!

Bonus Duel Reward Campaign

Banner

Bonus 1000 Duel Points: Good for 6-7k DP farming decks to push for 8k + Suicide in PvP for skill farming get 2 chests- high chance to unlock skills.

Double Gate Keys & Gold Campaign

More keys to duel Legendary Duelists at the Gate. Can be useful for farming LD to farm for cards, and additional keys.

Additional Legendary Duelist Campaign

Banner

Not very important, but one more LD to duel is fine.

Duel-A-Thon Event

Duel-A-Thon Banner

Duel-A-Thon/Duel Quest/Mission Circuit:Same format: The more you duel, the higher reward you earn.

Tour Guide - Bingo Missions Event

Bingo Mission April Banner

Complete certain missions to complete Bingo sheets to earn Cards, Tickets and Gems!

Train Your Kuriboh! Campaign

Banner

Train Your Kuriboh: This is the most IMPORTANT event for new players!

During the campaign you earn 100 points for playing a duel in Duel World and 300 for playing a duel in Ranked(surrender doesn’t count). 300 points max a day.

From my calculation, getting 300 points in 7 days consecutively can get you a SR/UR ticket. Higher points can lead you to glossy/prismatic one.

Useful Cards for the Kuriboh Ticket

Cyberdark Cannon

Duel Links Card: Cyberdark%20Cannon
This is the card I recommend most if you are wanting to build Cyberdarks. Lots of tickets don't have this card in the pool and farming Zane for 3 copies is a bit tedious. With Kuriboh you are guaranteed to have a Cannon per month.

Since you can obtain one Cannon after a weak of the Kuriboh ticket, and the Kuriboh ticket being once per month, you are able to get 2 in about a month and a half. During this time you should also be farming zane for a 3rd which means 3 cannons in under 2 months. Either way, this campaign helps you getting Cannon for Cyberdark easier.

Union Attack

Duel Links Card: Union%20Attack
A good selection if you don't have enough tickets for this. If you are able to, choose Cannon over Union.

Important in Vassal Farm Deck, along with Secret Pass. Can help you build a farm deck in the future. If you don’t want to go for Cyberdark, or you have enough SR tickets for Union Attack,it is an extremely useful card to help you farm.

NOTE: After you release a Kuriboh, you can’t receive another Kuriboh till next month. Once you release a Kuriboh, you can’t train it for higher rewards later.

Part 4 - Farming Tips

What is Farming?

Farming usually can be known as an activity in the game that you try to get over 8k Duel Assessment(DA/DP) in a duel for drops.Usually playing versus against the same duelist in a farm.

A chest is dropped for you for each 1000 points you earn.Max 8 chests in a duel. More chests give you an increased chance of obtaining a card from the LD, or the skill from the character you use to duel.

What are the differences between Card Farming and Skill Farming?

Card farming aims for getting the cards you want that the corresponding LD drops. Example: Dueling Zane has a chance to drop Cyberdark Cannon and Cyberdark Edge as chest rewards for you.

Skill farming aims for getting a good skill (that can only be obtained through chests). The skills you can obtain are randomly chosen from the character’s (that you duel with) skill list. Example: Dueling with Ishizu can drop Sealed Tombs or No Mortal Can Resist.

Benefits of Farming

Some cards in top tier decks are FARMABLE (Great example: Cyberdark Cannon). Also, outside from boxes, most cards are from LD drop too, including roaming/event/gate LD. Cards from new LD (either from roaming or event) are usually HIGH POTENTIAL, such as Cyber Angel support from Alluring Alexis makes the deck better.

Skill farming is very important in this game. Some skills like Sealed Tombs and Light and Dark are only available through chest drops, and both have had meta defining impacts on the game. This is why you need a deck that can go for 8k points in order to have the best chance at getting the desired skill.

Why can’t I just win, why do I need to Farm?

Usually a win will get you 2000-3000 points, so it may appear that winning normally 4 times is the same as or potentially better than farming for 15 mins for 8 chests. But in reality, it is not like that. The drop RNG is like an automatic candy machine. Every time you take candy from the machine, the machine will automatically fill it up. Same as DL, if you get 8 chests, the drop rate is better than playing 4 wins for 2-3 chests each. So, the final statement is: The drop rate is not stack up across each duel. This means the more chests you obtain, higher drop rate you have for that individual duel. While farming can take up a lot of time and resources, it is always worth it in the end.

F2P/Instant Card Farm decks for Beginners

You have read all the benefits of farming, I believe. It is time for me to show how to build farm decks:

Rules: Always try to aim for:

  1. Over 9999 damage for 3000 DP.
  2. Victory by effect damage only for 1000 DP.
  3. Cards on the Brink - win with no cards on your deck for 500 DP.
  4. Play Glossy/Prisma:100 DP each Glossy, 200 for Prisma.

Farming Package: Secret Pass to the Treasures (from first pack opening), Union Attack (SR/Kuriboh Tickets), Gravekeeper’s Vassal.

  • Best farming package. Usually being used in decks that can stall the opponent and can summon big monsters in the last turn to boost Vassal using Union Attack and attack directly with Secret Pass. Follow the first step in my guide and this package is NO GEMS REQUIRED!

Farming Package 2: Mythical Beast Cerberus +19 Spells.

  • Secondary F2P package. Play this with Draw Sense: LIGHT or Sorcery Conduit to search for the Cerberus and start boosting its attack later on. This package uses Cerberus and a lot of spells to increase his attack points. This can either use by itself or combined this with Vassal engine.

NOTE: If you use pure version try to have a Stop Defense in your deck to change a defense monster to ATK position and go for lethal.

If you use Cerberus + Vassal, remove Stop Defense and 2 more spells for Vassal, Union Attack, Secret Pass. Aim to get Cerberus to +10000 ATK in both ways.

Instant Skill Farm Deck for Beginners

Skill farm usually aims for the skill dropped, so we can choose any Legendary Duelist to duel aganist (LV. 40 LD has more chances to drop skill so try to farm at that level). Some great choice is Téa, Odion and Rex because they don’t have much destruction cards and high-attack monsters(Be aware of Solemn Wishes from Téa that let her gains LP)

Here is an example of a quick skill farm deck:

Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Zombie%20Dragon
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Zombie%20Dragon
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Zombie%20Dragon
Duel Links Card: Gravekeeper's%20Vassal
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Black%20Dragon
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Black%20Dragon
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Black%20Dragon
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Insight
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Insight
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Insight
Duel Links Card: Union%20Attack
Duel Links Card: Union%20Attack
Duel Links Card: Cards%20of%20the%20Red%20Stone
Duel Links Card: Cards%20of%20the%20Red%20Stone
Duel Links Card: Cards%20of%20the%20Red%20Stone
Duel Links Card: Magical%20Mallet
Duel Links Card: Secret%20Pass%20to%20the%20Treasures
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Spirit
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Spirit
Duel Links Card: Red-Eyes%20Spirit

This deck is the cheapest farm deck because it only requires 0-1 Red-Eyes Structure to build. Red-Eyes Farm focuses on thinning your deck with Insight and Cards of the Red Stone to summon your Dragons to stall for the big last turn.

Basic learn for this deck:

  1. Summon at least 1-2 Red-Eyes monsters: Use Insight to add Spirit and send a Red-Eyes. Revive that using your added Spirit.
  2. Stall your opponent till you have 0 cards left in your deck. During those turns, try to continuously destroy your opponent’s monsters. For 5/7/10 monsters you destroy, you can get 100/200/300 bonus points!
  3. Using Cards of the Red Stone and Insight-> send Red-Eyes-> add Spirit to thin your deck as fast as possible to quicken the time and avoid your opponent can thin faster than you can.
  4. Before the last turn, have a Spirit set and a Red-Eyes in your GY. Activate Spirit to summon your 2nd dragon, then summon Vassal, follow by 2 Union Attack and Secret Pass to the Treasure and attacking with Vassal.

NOTE: You can use Red-Eyes Toon Dragon instead of Zombie Dragon. Toon Dragon is obtainable through RE structure(2 copies per deck).

Part 5 - Tricks and Tips

Deck Building

  • How to have a good deck?
  1. Try your best to make your deck 20 cards. The consistency of drawing your best cards is better than playing a deck with more than 20 cards.
  2. Set your sights on core cards first. Tech cards can be grinded for future if needed.
  3. Keep an eye on new cards and banlists to adjust your deck.
  • How to prepare a good side deck for Tourneys?
  1. Look at your weak matchups of your deck
  2. Look at cards that can cover/counter that weakness
  3. Look at potential skills that can help you when facing certain decks.

Example 1: You are playing as Six Samurai. Your weak matchups can be Triamid, Desperado and potentially Six Samurai itself. For Triamid, you can side Cosmic Cyclone to banish their important spells/traps. For Desperado, you can side Dimensional Prison to banish Cyberdark and Neos which are great threat to this, then you can focus on destroying Desperado Barrel Dragon himself. For Six Samurai mirror, run Paleozoic Canadia. It can flip Secret Six Samurai - Fuma down to prevent the synchro summon, and it can be used to bait Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En effect because when being face down Shien can’t activate negation effect, open chances for activating other cards.

Example 2: You are playing as Metaphys. You can side Sphere Kuriboh against aggressive decks like Blue-Eyes. You can switch to Light and Dark. by siding the skill and 2-3 Light Beast in case you are facing decks that Grit can’t have fully protect you.

Gems Tricks

  1. Use gems for your core cards first, only after that you can go for the tech cards.
  2. Don’t spend gems IMMEDIATELY after a new box comes out. Wait for OFFICIAL review to decide if it is a good or bad box.
  3. Don’t use gems on SELECTION BOXES if you aren’t a whale at spending. Selection boxes contain a mixture of good and bad URs and SRs so you can’t really ensure you open certain cards like in normal boxes. Also, you can only buy 10 times with gems(6 times with mini selection boxes) so it is a big risk in opening Selection Boxes that you can avoid.
  4. Try to grind for gems through events like Duel Carnival, Unlocking Characters event, Duel-A-Thon/Duel Quest/Mission Circuit, etc. These events can give you a fair amount of gems if you grind hard, so try to not miss events.
  5. Don’t go to boxes if you can’t finish your decks from them.

Spending Tricks

NOTE: Skip if you are pure F2P

  1. Bundles

Banner

Bundles are permanent sales that can let you obtain an older card that is still a staple in DL. There are 4 Bundles these include: Cosmic Cyclone, Sphere kuriboh, Super Rush Headlong, and Mirror Wall.

The best bundles in my opinion are Sphere Kuriboh and Cosmic Cyclone. They are better and more popular than Super Rush Headlong and Mirror Wall.

A little note, you can have extra gifts like Game Mats and Vagrants, etc. in the bundles. Recommended for beginners!

  1. Structure Decks

DO NOT BUY STRUCTURE DECKS IF YOU CANNOT BUY IT THREE TIMES!

The most important rule when buying structure: All-in or empty-handed. Usually only EX structure decks are top-tier (with an exception from RE briefly)

100% SAFE INVESTMENT in Duel Links.

  1. Sales

This is an important part in Duel Links too: Sales can help you get more cards with less money!

  • When will you have sale?

After a release of a new box/structure deck, before/after an announcement of a big event like WCS, KC Cup, etc.

A sale usually will be like: X packs + Y gems. Some sales can be X packs + 1 SR/UR. For the bonus SR/UR, the card will be selected randomly from the whole box’s URs/SRs, not from the current box state, so be mindful about that.

From all of those sales, I want you to focus on these 2 sales:

  • Reopen Deals

Banner

The deal will come up like usual sale, like 10 packs for 1st deal, then 20 packs for 2nd deal and stuff like that. But, the difference is: You can REOPEN the deal! By reopening a deal, you will have a better chance at grabbing the card(s) you want. The reopening is not mandatory by the way, so you can keep it if it satisfies you, or reopen for upper chance of opening the desired card(s)!

  • UR/SR Cards Guaranteed Sale

Banner

(The banner can change if it is only UR/SR deal but this is the usual format).

This is another good sale in game. The sale will be like: X packs + Y UR(SR). This is a good sale if you want to get certain SRs/URs from it. Best used on Mini Boxes because they have a smaller range of SR/UR and can let you get stuff you want!

Spending Tickets

SR Tickets

It can be obtained from Ranked/KC/WCS Duel Rewards, Campaigns like Bingo Mission, Duel-A-Thon, etc. There are lists of cards that can be useful for SR Tickets:

UR Tickets

This is the same as SR tickets, the difference is you can obtain UR rarity cards now!

Recommended Cards:

Lava Golem

Duel Links Card: Lava%20Golem
Good tech in Neos/Cyberdark decks. Rip off 2 monsters on your opponent field with a 1000 burn damage is powerful.

Dynatherium

Duel Links Card: Dynatherium
Good in a tribute deck like Hazy Flame or post-nerf Subterrors.

Dream SR/UR Ticket

Dream SR/UR ticket appearance is the same as that SR/UR tic but has Blue-Eyes image on the top of it. It is the most precious ticket in DL because you can trade for cards around the boxes (excluding new boxes).

NOTE: Before you use a Dream Ticket, think carefully. Wait before a big event/new box or wait till near the expiration day to use. Meta is changing everyday so it can be risky to use your dream tics too early.Stay calm and think about when will you use it!

These are the cards that are worth for the Dream Tickets right now:

Treacherous Trap Hole

Duel Links Card: Treacherous%20Trap%20Hole
Undeniably the best trap in Duel Links. Destroy 2 monsters without a truely dead cost is terrifying. You can use it on decks that don't use a lot of traps. Also, even with 1 Treacherous Trap Hole it can easily steal you the games.

Cosmic Cyclone

Duel Links Card: Cosmic%20Cyclone
Best backrow removal. A quick-play means you can use it instantly on your turn and can able to disrupt on your opponent's turn! Pay 1000 LP also helps Skills like Switcheroo. We have a Cosmic Cyclone bundle so it is good to choose this.

Sphere Kuriboh

Duel Links Card: Sphere%20Kuriboh
A great tech for aggressive deck like Blue-Eyes or turning off Six Style - Dual Wield with Six Samurai in Defense. Use when your opponent's monster is attacking to protect your monster/LP. Having a Sphere Kuriboh sale makes this even better as a choice.

Paleozoic Canadia

Duel Links Card: Paleozoic%20Canadia
A good card for any decks. Disrupt a summon like flipping Secret Six Samurai - Fuma down and to prevent lethal from your opponent.

Floodgate Trap Hole

Duel Links Card: Floodgate%20Trap%20Hole
Permanently flip a monster face down when it is summoned, this is similar to Canadia. Although Canadia can be used at any moment, not just on summon so Canadia is somewhat better but it is not a bad choice for permanent face down either.

Galaxy Cyclone

Duel Links Card: Galaxy%20Cyclone
Good card as backrow removal and also good with Ancient Gears too. 2 pop effects on just 1 card is strong and very useful in any situations.
