[Top Player Council](/top-player-council/) Thoughts

‘What are the most important things to know about this Structure Deck?’

Glading says:

Don’t buy this Deck until other cards which could make it good come out in the future.

SelectMaple says:

This Deck will probably have a version with Red-Eyes Slash Dragon as Paladin of Felgrand and Dragon Knight of Creation can be used as Fusion Material, along with The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion. Note that if a Red-Eyes Slash Dragon is in the Graveyard and was summoned using the effect of The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion, you cannot use Paladin of Felgrand’s or Dragon Knight of Creation’s effects to special summon Slash Dragon back, because it was not properly Fusion Summoned.

Currently, Dragons only have a few boss monsters that are somewhat viable in the current meta. Arkbrave Dragon being able to counter against Sea Stealth Attack, Arkbrave has very few usage against other top tier Decks. Along with having 2400 ATK, many other big monsters are capable of running other Arkbrave, such as Cyber Angel Dakini, Alien Overlord with 1 Alien Counter and Sylvan Hermitree.

kwrowe says:

The three most relevant cards will be Dragon Knight of Creation, Arkbrave Dragon and Paladin of Felgrand.

Dragon Knight of Creation is the best card from the Deck. His first relevant effect that triggers when he destroys a monster by battle (1800 ATK) allows you to send an Arkbrave Dragon to the Graveyard from your Deck. This offers both fodder for his second effect and allows you to special summon a Level 7/8 Dragon next turn. His second effect allows you to discard a card and send himself to the Graveyard to special summon a Level 7/8 Dragon from the Graveyard - this includes Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon, Arkbrave Dragon and Red-Eyes Slash Dragon.

Paladin of Felgrand allows you to equip a Level 7/8 Dragon monster from your Hand or Deck to himself to make himself immune from monster effects. This essentially makes the card function as a pseudo searcher. He can also tribute himself and another monster to special summon a Level 7/8 Dragon from the Graveyard.

Arkbrave Dragon removes all of your opponents face-up Spells/Traps and gains 200 ATK/DEF when special summoned from the Graveyard. This is helpful against SSA and Decks that run a Field Spell (think Dinos and Destiny Heroes (Dark City)). Also, your next turn after he is sent to the Graveyard you can special summon a Level 7 Dragon except itself during the Standby Phase.

Xanxus says:

You want to get you boss monster’s Arkbrave Dragon & Darkblaze Dragon with Dragon Knight of Creation into the Graveyard, to use his second effect or Paladin of Felgrand’s effect, to special summon the big Dragons from there. After that Arkbrave can banish all of your opponents face-up Spells and Traps, to get 200 ATK & DEF boost for each of them. ‘Arkbrave’ can also special summon ‘Darkblaze’ from the Graveyard, if he was send the turn before to the Graveyard. If ‘Darkblaze’ is special summond from the Graveyard it’s original ATK and DEF is doubled. If he destroys a monster your opponents will get damage up to the original ATK of the destroyed monster.

Konami recommends to use Chazz Princeton’s new skill (Dragonic Fusion) with this Deck so you’ll be able to get out Five-Headed Dragon.

》3K《 All Day says:

There are a lot of potential combos coming from these Dragons, many Level 4 monsters beaters have secondary effects that thin your Deck of a large Dragon and then other effects to easily summon the Dragon to the field.

Kayoh says:

This Structure Deck provides good support cards for Red-Eyes Slash Dragon and Blue-Eyes White Dragon Decks. Definitely a strong improvement to these Decks with the addition of Paladin of Felgrand, Arkbrave Dragon and Dragon Knight of Creation.

Regarding Red-Eyes Slash Dragon Decks, the new and strong combo this Structure Deck added is Paladin of Felgrand + Arkbrave Dragon, as you’re able to equip the Arkbrave Dragon to Paladin of Felgrand straight from the Deck or Hand. You can then fuse the Paladin of Felgrand for a Red-Eyes Slash Dragon or tribute it to special summon a Level 7/8 Dragon from the GY, and use Arkbrave Dragon’s Graveyard effect to special summon a Level 7/8 Dragon in your opponent’s Standby Phase.

Dragon Knight of Creation also has a great effect that allows you to special summon a Level 7/8 Dragon from the Graveyard, including Red-Eyes Slash Dragon. Main play style of this Deck should be getting out Red-Eyes Slash Dragon fast and consistently, with many methods of reviving it from the Graveyard.

‘Are there other cards that work particularly well in combination with this Structure Deck?’

Glading says:

Guardian of Felgrand, Darkflare Dragon, Stamping Destruction and Hieratic Dragon of Nuit.

SelectMaple says:

Ecilpse Wyvern: with Valiant Souls adding Eclipse Wyvern into the game, this gives Dragons another way to get out your big boss monsters from your Deck but with only Arkbrave Dragon being one of few.

Red-Eyes Slash Dragon/The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion: as mentioned above, these pair well with the cards in the Structure Deck getting out a Red-Eyes Slash Dragon onto the board.

Powerful Rebirth: such a great card in the meta, grabbing your Level 4 monsters back from the Graveyard.

Ruins of the Divine Dragon Lords: A great ability negating your opponent’s special summoned monsters’ effects. Though with its condition of controlling a Level 7 or 8 Dragon monster and only having access to 1 in the game, some may not want to play this card as it is useless without a big monster on the field.

Release Restraint Wave: both Guardian of Felgrand and Paladin of Felgrand are able to equip monsters from the Hand, Deck or Graveyard making Release Restraint Wave a viable card to clear your opponents backrow. Downside is that it only hits set Spell and Trap cards.

Darkstorm Dragon/Darkblaze Dragon/Hieratic Dragon of Asar: all viable boss monsters if you feel that Arkbrave Dragon is not enough. Unlikely their effects will be used and will just act as large beaters on the field.

kwrowe says:

This Deck combos well with Decks that focus on summoning Red-Eyes Slash Dragon, as this is the most powerful Level 7/8 Dragon monster that can be summoned from the Graveyard

Furthermore, Dragon Knight of Creation and Paladin of Felgrand are both Warrior type monsters. This means Red-Eyes Slash Dragon can equip them.

Xanxus says:

Eclipse Wyvern from Valiant Souls will work well with Arkbrave Dragon because it is a Light attribute monster.

Castle of Dragon Souls because it can special summon the banished Dragon, if it’s destroyed.

》3K《 All Day says:

The other Felgrand cards work in similar fashion, and if you combine this Deck with Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Birthright you may be able to get out Blue-Eyes White Dragon quickly.

Kayoh says:

Guardian of Felgrand works similarly to Paladin of Felgrand; equipping Dragons to them and tributing them to special summon Dragons from the Graveyard. If these cards are used in a Dragon Deck, they’ll most likely be played together.

‘Can the cards in this Structure Deck be used in any other top-tier Deck?’

Glading says:

No!

SelectMaple says:

Unlikely!

kwrowe says:

The cards are so focused that they can’t be splashed into current top Decks really, they will have to function in their own build.

Xanxus says:

Maybe Evilswarm Zahak is a potential side Deck option.

》3K《 All Day says:

In other top-tier Decks, no. There are no current Dragon based top-tier Decks.

Kayoh says:

I don’t see any cards having an impact on other top-tier Decks.

‘Do you expect this Structure Deck to have an impact on the meta?’

Glading says:

No!

SelectMaple says:

Again, unlikely that this Deck will have an impact on the meta. This Deck will just be another Red-Eyes Slash Dragon variant.

kwrowe says:

It’s hard to say. Most of the available Level 7/8 Dragons that can be special summoned are currently not that strong. Red-Eyes Slash Dragon is the exception, but Destiny Heroes have already found a way to harness his power with The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion. While Destiny Heroes are an incredibly flexible Deck (even more so with Valiant Souls), this Deck will be quite restricted in its focus on Red-Eyes Slash Dragon. However, this Deck will be able to both summon Red-Eyes Slash Dragon easier than Destiny Heroes and consistently revive it through Red-Eyes Spirit, Arkbrave Dragon and Dragon Knight of Creation’s effects. Considering the sheer amount of resources it can take in the current meta to remove a single Red-Eyes Slash Dragon, this could make the Deck very hard to beat. On the flip-side, this Deck will not be able to harness Black Luster Soldier - Sacred Soldier in the same way that Destiny Heroes can. Still, they can revive Dragon Knight of Creation which would allow for an easy re-summon of Red-Eyes Slash Dragon next turn. I believe this is a Deck that should sit in the ‘High Potential’ category until further testing.

In terms of match-ups

Arkbrave Dragon can put huge pressure on Sea Stealth Attack with his effect which allows for the removal of all face-up spells and traps. This gives the Deck a favourable match against a Tier 1 Deck. Especially when one considers that Red-Eyes Slash Dragon acts as an Abyss Soldier counter.

Sylvan’s have limited outs to Red-Eyes Slash Dragon because Sylvan Marshalleaf‘s effect targets and their biggest beater is only a 2700 ATK - 100 ATK less than Red-Eyes Slash Dragon. They will be able to use Divine Wrath on Red-Eyes Slash Dragon’s effect, but if they fail to OTK once they have done this, he can be summoned again next turn with relative ease.

Cyber Angels can deal with Red-Eyes Slash Dragon using the non-targeting effect of Cyber Angel Dakini, meaning the match may be hard. For this reason Enemy Controller will likely need to be maxed in the Deck, or at least the Side Deck.

Xanxus says:

No, definitely not! The combos are too slow. Even with Valiant Souls it’s not worth it to buy this Dragon Structure Deck, because the Main Box itself brings the Hieratic-Archetype and better Dragon cards into the game.

》3K《 All Day says:

Honestly, no. YouTube Deck at best. Sometimes combos can brick and the Deck doesn’t have many answers for the other top Decks around. I personally will not spend my money/gems on this Deck.

Kayoh says:

With all these new combos available, a lot of testing is needed to figure out the optimal way to build these new Dragon Decks. With that being said, I do believe this Structure Deck has potential to impact the meta, specifically with Red-Eyes Slash Dragon. It could become a high potential Deck.

‘If you do expect this Deck to have an impact on the meta, how would you initially build it?’

kwrowe says:

I would use Elemental HERO Blazeman and King of the Swamp as Polymerization searchers. Play 2 Arkbrave Dragon and 2/3 Dragon Knight of Creation along with a reduced Red-Eyes Insight engine for space reasons. Other cards that should be considered are Cosmic Cyclone and Enemy Controller.

Potential techs include Dark Core and Snipe Hunter as they both allow one to discard dead cards or Arkbrave Dragon plays. Other options are Powerful Rebirth, Fusion Recycling Plant, Storm or protection like Super Rush Headlong/Curse of Anubis.

Restart as the skill so you have a way to summon Red-Eyes Slash Dragon early.”

》3K《 All Day says:

Blue-Eyes White Dragon by itself has potential to be a Deck and it’s still not meta. Add in these new fancy combo cards and it still won’t be meta. 3 Burst Stream of Destruction came out - still not meta.

Kayoh says:

I would make this Deck revolve around Red-Eyes Slash Dragon, since it’s the best Dragon in the game.
